The My Safe Florida Home Program was recently re-established by the Florida Legislature. The program is comprised of two main elements:
Wind Mitigation Home Inspections – Up to 145,000 site-built, single-family residential homes are eligible for free wind mitigation inspections by the state. Inspections will identify potential improvements to mitigate homes against future wind damage.
Wind Mitigation Grant Awards – After receiving a wind mitigation inspection, eligible homeowners can apply for grants to make improvements to their homes, with the state providing $2 in grants for every $1 the homeowner provides (up to $10,000).
Owners of site-built, single-family residential homes can apply for a free wind mitigation inspection.
Homeowners who have received a wind mitigation inspection and meet the following criteria may be eligible for a matching grant:
- Proof of homestead exemption
- Documentation of home insurance for less than $500,000
- Home located in the wind-borne debris region of the state
- Building permit issued prior to January 1, 2008
- Agreement to re-inspect the home after construction work is completed.
